Bermudez Projects proudly presents SPACELAND III | Aftermath, the third chapter in what is now the SPACELAND Biennial series.
In this follow up to 2014’s SPACELAND II | Escape from Spaceland – which presented a view of a dystopian Los Angeles after some undefined cataclysm – SPACELAND III presents the imperfect healing of Los Angeles, led by artists who have joined forces to create joint works of art in the wake of this imagined post-apocalyptic age.
Approximately 10 works, ranging from two large-scale mural installations, mixed-media drawings, fiber based sculpture, paintings, and photography, will be made specially for this exhibit. An originally produced soundtrack will be available both in the gallery and online. And, a site-specific installation will take over a local park along the Arroyo Parkway.
SPACELAND III’s roster includes notable artists within the Bermudez Projects network, such as Nanci Amaka with Kellan Shanahan; Emmanuel Crespo with Cody Norris; Gordon Henderson with John S. Rabe; Andrew Lyon with Johnny Taylor; and Erynn Richardson with Camilla Taylor. Newcomers include Johnny Adimando, Jesse K. Phillips, and Sean Patrick Sullivan.
The SPACELAND Biennial has become a highly-anticipated feature of the institution’s artistic programming. Presenting artworks made specifically to represent the biennial’s theme of that year, SPACELAND highlights the artists’ technical, philosophical, and artistic processes, as well as the ever-changing, multifaceted ethos of Los Angeles.
